So I totally go back and forth on whether I think the Chasers should have their own point system. I think it boils down to what Nascar thinks is the most important thing. Does it think excitement/dram (and most likely ratings) are more important than the tradition of consistency = championship? I personally am a fan of flashy wins and drama but is it fair to change the point system on someone like Burton who just had amazing consistency all year? Today on Fox sports DW discussed this very issue. If the Chasers had their own point system it would look like this:
10-point system: Standings after three races
Pos. Driver Pts. back
1. Jeff Burton ā
2. Denny Hamlin -6
3. Mark Martin -6
4. Jeff Gordon -7
5. Kevin Harvick -8
6. Matt Kenseth -10
7. Dale Earnhardt Jr. -11
8. Jimmie Johnson -13
9. Kyle Busch -15
10. Kasey Kahne -19
Well now that is quite a change up. And truthfully it would still be hard for the bottom three guys to make up those points unless they won races.
Ok time to pick a side - I say give them their own point system. They wanted a 10 racer playoff? Well lets have 10 drivers eligible to win the whole thing at Homestead. As Flavor Flav would say: It would be all dramatical.
And after all - isn't this about entertainment?

How ironic would it be if Kenseth won and then they changed the points system. He's the reason we have the chase in the first place!
Sure, give them their own points system. Heck, give them their own race! Let the top 10 race on Sunday and the others can just join in on the Busch race on Saturday. Oh wait, most of them alreay run the Busch race, lol.
One thing I would like to see is more points for the race winner. All season long, not just for the last 10. Yay for Burton and his consistent season, but poor Kahne, in spite of his series leading five wins, is still on the bottom of the chase standings.
I'm not the biggest fan of the whole Busch whacking deal (unless I am at a Busch race and then it's all good. Which I guess is the crux of Nascar's problem!)
I completely agree with more points for winning and i wouldn't mind seeing points for qualifying. They work really hard on those cars for qualifying - make it count. If they are going to shake up the points system I think they should really shake it up so they don't have to redo it in another 3 years.
